You can not recognize what is crooked without the Spiritual consciousness of what is regarded as straight. In a world that is permeated with deception, believers will gradually distance themselves from God and weaken their witness to the lost world if they do not maintain a bearing in which to discern the true path of righteousness. If the Author of Truth is not daily sought after, faith falls short of purity and lives become nothing more than religion for the facilitation of human comfort. Compromise is then disguised to take on the appearance of God's grace, but the reality is that this contradiction will be exposed in the assembly of those who know.
Even so, "Consider the work of God: who can make straight what he has made crooked?" (Ecclesiastes 7:13 ESV)
The answer of course is no one but God. Like Jesus, however, you must be willing to lay down your own life in order to more fully comprehend the Holy plumb line.
